Commercial Back

Nana Coffee Roaster Bangna

2022Project Info

Located in the large commercial/residential district of Bangna, Nana Coffee Roasters Bangna introduces a café design alternative that blurs the boundary between architecture and lush landscape, drawing visitors away from the buzzing Bangna-Trad motorway, redirecting their focus onto the coffee-drinking experience. Through this concept, the boundaries between three practices— architecture, interior, and landscape—are blurred. This ‘blurred’ space creates undefined areas where Instagrammable is much less important than the visitor’s experience of indulging in a high-quality cup of coffee within the surrounding nature. A series of landscape layers help create a micro-environment for both humans and animals in the area. First, lush greenery protects the property from noise, dust, pollution, and even vibrations from heavy traffic outside. All existing trees were retained to provide a microclimate, reducing the overall temperature by a few degrees, compared to the surrounding highways and concrete masses. In certain areas, the green landscape was allowed to penetrate into the interior space, while some furniture extended from the interior to each garden terrace, creating an illusion of blending interior and exterior space together. At the same time, this urban sanctuary not only serves human users but also creates biodiversity, with many blooming plant species that provide homes and food for local birds and insects, especially bees and stingless bees
